Allie Skipper Carter

Allie Skipper Carter, 73, of Waynesville died Monday morning, Aug. 30, 2010, at Hospice of the Golden Isles, Brunswick, following a lengthy illness.

Born in Brunswick, her parents were Sherman Brantley Skipper, Sr., and Ruby Thelma Gamble Skipper. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Sherman B. Skipper, Jr.; and two sisters, Geneva Smith and Linda J. Bare.

Allie was a retired cardiac technician for Southeast Georgia Health System. She was an artist who loved to paint and loved writing songs and singing. She loved flowers and was a past member of a Garden Club in Toccoa.

She went on five mission trips with Hill Street Baptist Church, Toccoa, and worked in many different areas in her churches. She was a member and song leader at Waynesville Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 27 years, Marvin Carter of Waynesville; a son, Daniel Carter of Chapmanville, W.Va.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Donnie Sikes of Shellman Bluff, Kay and Kelly Bare of Waynesville and Joy and Rod Fernando of Toccoa; a brother and sister-in-law, William A “Bill” and Ernestine Skipper of Brunswick; two sisters and brother-in-law, Louise Clifton and Mary “Bunny” and David Jackson, all of Brunswick; seven granddaughters and spouses, Brittany and Chad Smith, Dani and Josh Duane, Allyson and Brandon Carter, Hannah and Joshua Goodbar, Kelly Ann Bare and Hillarie Fernando; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010, at Waynesville Baptist Church, with the the Rev. Vance Colley, the Rev. David Hudson and the Rev. Paul Garrison officiating.

Burial will follow in Palmetto Cemetery, Brunswick.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Ryle, Joshua Ryle, John B. Smith, David Clifton, Wallace Bare, Sr., and Kelly Bare.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of Mrs. Carter’s Sunday school class and the choir of Waynesville Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles, Waynesville Baptist Church or Gideon’s International.

Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta, is in charge of arrangements.
