Thank you so much for making the Okemah Newsleader available online. Not only is it a great way to go 'green' but it also provides me the ability to keep up with the news in Okemah from so far away.

I would like to see a follow up story done on the Tyrone Willis Murder Case, that occured in Boley on August 5th, 2005. Has the case gone cold? Was it investigated? Thank you.

I am doing extensive research into the family of Teco Holden Searcy who in 1945 lived at Route #1, Box 178, Okemah. She was a school teacher in Stillwater from 1921 until her husband died in 1944 and was probably a teacher in Okemah. I am interested in contacting any of her Okemah students.

There are lots of Okemah fans in the Metro-Tulsa area but we aren't seeing team and individual accomplishments reported to the Tulsa World. Other teams in Division 2A-5 have reports. Can the coach get online and report statistics, etc. to the Tulsa newspaper as well as The Oklahoman. It would be appreciated. They have individual season statistics on players but only if reported to them. This could figure into All State voting so why not let this area know how well Okemah is doing. The team is looking good!

All kudos to Valerie for the work she has done with her students. All of the years I spent around her as a classmate she was a class act and she has not wavered. We need more like her.

Wed. May 25, 2011 will be the 100th anniversary of the lynching of Laura Nelson and her 14 yr old son at the N Canadian River bridge west of Okemah -- a disgusting and shameful chapter in Okemah town history. No one was charged. Woody Guthrie's father attended the lynching and W.G. wrote songs about it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynching_of_Laura_and_Lawrence_Nelson Will anyone commemorate the occasion down at the bridge?

A fee to subscribe to the online version? really? :) I bet if you beefed up the online version with more ads/local discounts and more photos of local events you'd get more people wanting to view which would in turn give you more money for ads. Just sayin'...

Not sure if you have heard, but "Cowboy For A Cure" is coming into your town this weekend or early next week. Johnny Warnshuis is riding from Redding, CA. where his mother lives. He is riding on horseback to Time Square in New York to try and raise awareness of a rare disease that affects his mother Sally and one or two in 100,000. They suffer from a rare disease called GBS/CIDP, which affects the peripheral nerves. Johnny is working with many foundations including but not limited to GBS/CIDP at: WWW.GBS-CIDP.ORG, and John Wayne Cancer Institute at: WWW.JWCI.ORG. You can go cowboyforacure.com to check out Johnny and his ride, and make donations if you feel the cause is worth it. There you will find a place to donate through PayPal, or if you can help with horse boarding, feed, or equipment, that is always needed. Right now he has 2100 miles in the saddle and is shooting for 4000 by the time the ride is over and hopes to ride to Hank Williams Jr. home to meet and hopefully get him involved. As of this weekend, Johnny will be riding into Okemah, OK with hopes of having the press out to greet him. He has been rewarded already by the love and kindness of the people he has met on his journey, but still can use all the help he can get. If you happen to see him, even a friendly wave to say hello is appreciated. All the attention given to Johnny’s efforts is more than welcome. Thank you for any help in advance.

Really Okemah an athletics facility in the Quantum building? Okemah will never grow. 800$ a month, I for one doubt any economic development benifits will be seen. If the building is on the market would a potential buyer know that it is equal distance from Tulsa, OKC and McAlester, that the building is minutes from I -40 just seems like Okemah is not trying hard enough. How long has Okemah been trying to sell ? 10-20 employees at what? minum wage, I dont see much of an impact there. I think we would do better with a manufacturing facility, but thats just my opinion. Does anyone know where or how the building is being listed? just curious

Information in the article titled "Accidental Fire Brings Great Loss to Several Neighbors " was based on a bias opinion. There has been no determination on what started that fire so therefore information in regards to how this fire was started is speculation and not the facts. Okemah News Leader investigate your stories before you publish them.

Regarding Ann's comment about the fire investigation by the Okemah News Leader, she wrote: "Information in the article titled "Accidental Fire Brings Great Loss to Several Neighbors " was based on a bias opinion.  The story was investigated and the cause of the fire was listed as "hay cutter" in the Okemah Fire Department report on the fire dated July 29, 2012. The report was filed at 7:49 p.m. A copy of the report can be picked up at Okemah Police Department or a copy can be obtained by coming to the News Leader office.

"THE DOME" Well that just takes the cake, if it was advertised as a storm shelter, then it should be one, sounds like the old "bait and switch" to me, say what you want to get what you want, then five years later disappoint everyone who voted" "yes". Who can you trust anymore?, If it was advertised as a storm shelter then it shoud be one. Is that false advertisment or what? What happend to a mans word? I dont know what it would take but I think the citizens of Okfuskee County would appreciate having both Oaks and the dome certified as "storm shelters" with signs on both buildings that indicate they are not liable for accidents or injury in the event that the buildings are being used as a public shelter. A lot of people cant afford a storm shelter or dont have one, what would the cost be to the city and county in man hours if there were a major disaster? I for one would not hold anyone liable for providing me shelter in time of need.Is the courthouse next? What about your elderly and handicapped? there are not to many shelters that I know of that are handicap accessible. Guess its time for you to go to the smallest room in the center of your home and pray
