GPB to feature Darien Church in new six-part series, Saving Grace, beginning on Monday, Sept. 10, at 9 p.m.
Georgia Public Broadcasting will be featuring a six-part series, Saving Grace, the Southern History Through the Eyes of Our Rural Churches, beginning on Monday, Sept. 10, at 9 p.m.
Among those churches to be featured will be St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church in Darien that was built after the Civil War by former slaves of Butler Plantation. The story of how the song Kumbaya was first recorded in Darien will be told and local ring shouters will be featured.
The series is produced by Historic Rural Churches of Georgia and explores southern history and communities through the eyes of their rural churches and captures the remarkable stories and historic architecture of churches across the state.
