American Legion is working to send “Georgia Love”

Care Packages to 385th MP Battalion from Ft. Stewart

The American Legion Post #137 in Darien is asking for the community’s help to send 90 boxes of care packages to members of the 385th MP Battalion, approximately 150 soldiers, who are stationed overseas.  The deadline is Friday, Nov. 15, for the collection of items.

Listed are items: Baby wipes, non-aerosol insect repellent, non-aerosol sunscreen, powder drink flavors likd Crystal Light, granola bars, snacks (no pork products), magazines, puzzle books, toothpaste, deodorant, chewing gum, hard candy, trail mix, playing cards, chap stick hand sanitizer, feminine products, pens and pencils, composition books, instant coffee and powder creamer.

The American Legion is also looking for people who can bake 12 dozen cookies or bars and pack into bags, with one dozen in each bag.

Also, there is a need for crocheted hats and small stuffed toys. Anyone who can crochet is invited to help. For those who can crochet, Shay Turner has the pattern.

The United States Postal Service supplies discounted flat rate for packages sent to those protecting our nation. To sponsor a solder, the cost is $18.45, which helps to get one of these packages where they need to go.
