Helen Butler Colson
Helen Butler Colson joined God’s Heavenly Choir on March 16, 2020, after an extended illness.
Born on January, 30, 1936 to her late parents, Ruby Gay and Ellis Butler, of Richmond Hill, Georgia, she has lived in McIntosh County for much of her life. She was an avid gardener and the owner of Quail Run Nursery, located in Crescent for many years. She was an accomplished artist and recently had a showing of her work at Home Life of Glynn, where she previously resided. She also crafted exquisite jewelry pieces with stones she often collected herself in the mountains of north Georgia and North Carolina. She loved singing at Shellman Bluff Baptist Church, where she was a member for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Daniel Colson; a sister, JoAnn Speed of Darien; a brother, Edward Butler of Macon; a son-in-law, Mark Mangum of Jacksonville; a grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
Survivors are her children, Andy Colson (Gwen) of Darien, Sherri Colson Mangum of Crescent, Chris Butler Colson (Michelle) of Darien and Gail Colson Aldridge (Scott) of Clyde, North Carolina; her siblings, Betty Bouchell (Jack) of Warner Robins, Patricia Costner of Ridgeville; Gerald Butler of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Judy Brawly of Pembroke; 13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, one-great-great-grandchild; and many nieces, nephews and very dear friends.
Due to current conditions, Helen’s family will have a Celebration of Life for her to be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Glynn, who gave her extraordinary care in her final days.
