Graveside funeral services for Anna Devine Gardner, 89, will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2020, at Greenwood Cemetery, in Brunswick, with Pastor Wesley Knight officiating.
A walk-through viewing will be held on Thursday, July 30, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Darien Funeral Home.
Masks are required, and social-distancing protocols will be observed at both the viewing and service.
Mrs. Gardner is a native of Screven and a 1950 graduate of Risley High School in Brunswick. She is a graduate of Fort Valley State College, majoring in secondary education, with a minor in history. She also attended Savannah State College and Armstrong College in Savannah.
She taught school in McIntosh County at Sapelo School, Todd-Grant and McIntosh County Academy, for a total of 34 years. During her tenure as a teacher, she was awarded Teacher of the Year at MCA. She retired from teaching in 1994 from the McIntosh County School System.
She was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
She is survived by four children, Anthony Harvey Sr., Kathy Hillis, Andrea Gardner and Dan Gardner Jr.; a stepson, Lewis Jackson; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
