City names Martin Williams as Interim Police Chief

The City of Darien has named Martin Williams as Interim Police Chief.

Chief Williams joined the Darien Police Department in 2020 as its Community Oriented Policing officer.  He brings a bevy of education, talent and experience to this position.  Chief Williams resides in Darien and is married to Dr. Melissa Williams.  He has two daughters, Christina Ireland and Vallye Elayne Williams.  He holds a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Management from Covenant College and an MBA from Kennesaw State University.  He is also already an accredited police chief by the Georgia Association of Police Chiefs and served as the Chief of the McIntosh County Schools Campus Police Department.

Prior to that he worked in law enforcement for the Cartersville Police Department, Savannah-Chatham County Board of Education Police Department and the Coastal College of Georgia Police Department.  In addition to law enforcement, Chief Williams has served in several positions in private industry, where his skills of budgeting and project management will be highly useful.

Mayor Hodge stated, “I will in short order appoint a hiring committee to begin the process of selecting a permanent police chief.  We were fortunate to already have an accredited police chief with us and we thank him for accepting this role.  We are confident he will perform well.”
