Thelma W. Hunter
Thelma Waiters Hunter, a beloved educator, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a proud member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, has died at the age of 91.
Thelma was born on July 21, 1929. She graduated from Allen University and started her teaching career in Dillion, South Carolina, and taught for nearly 68 years. She retired from the McIntosh County School District after 33 years, and then spent another 35 years in the classroom, as a substitute teacher.
Thelma was married to Theodore Hunter (deceased 1980) and was the mother of three children, Thea Hunter (deceased 1997), Roderick Hunter, and Viette Hunter. She has nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Thelma passed away on February 6, 2021.
There will be a walk-through viewing at 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Darien Funeral Home on Sunday, February 14.
Funeral services will held on Monday, February 15, in the Gymnasium at McIntosh County Academy and she will be laid to rest at Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery.
