Inmate death in McIntosh Jail under investigation

GBI is investigating death of inmate

at the McIntosh County Jail

On Saturday, Oct. 9, at approximately 1:50 p.m., the McIntosh Count Office of the Sheriff began an investigation involving the death of an inmate in the McIntosh County jail, according to Col. Danny Lowe. The death investigation has been turned over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and that investigation is underway.

The inmate has been identified as Thomas James Sperry, age 28, of Jacksonville, Fla. He was arrested on Sept. 1 on charges of speeding 101 mph in a 70 mph zone; speeding 116 mph in a 70 mph zone; improper passing; too fast for condition; wrong class of driver’s license; failure to signal lane change; driving while license suspended/withdrawn; fleeing or attempting to elude police officer, reckless driving; and theft by receiving stolen property.
