Earl Alston Sr.
Earl Edwin Alston Sr., 71, formerly of The Ridge, died Tuesday, May 10, 2022.
He became a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Ridgeville at a young age, and later became affiliated with All Nations Church of God by Faith in St. Petersburg, Florida. Earl graduated from Todd-Grant High School in Darien in 1970. Upon high school graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Earl retired from St. Petersburg Times, now called Tampa Bay Times, and later worked part-time at Sarasota Times. He was a tinkerer, loving to work on and rebuild cars and trucks. He was an introvert, a quiet man, just “wanting to chill,” never complaining, always watching and sizing people up. He believed in fair treatment for everyone and loved his family, especially his children.
He is survived by five sons, Dorian Pettis, Audie Raymond Alston, Erie Alston, Xavier Corey Williams and Earl Alston Jr.; siblings, Abraham Hamilton, Willie T. Alston Jr., Lynette Stephens, Doris Adams, Kathleen Joseph, Inez Frazier, Patricia Mitchell, Alma Armstrong and Robert Ross; several aunts and an uncle; 23 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and a very special and caring friend, Viola Adams.
A graveside funeral service, with military honors, was held Saturday, May 21, 2022, in Ebenezer Cemetery, in Eulonia.
