Julia Bens Wilson, 83, formerly of Darien, died Thursday, May 12, 2022, at Memorial Health, in Savannah.

She was a native of Brunswick.  In Julia’s early life, she joined First African Baptist Church in Darien.  Julia attended Todd-Grant High School and graduated with the Class of 1956.  Julia retired from Fort Stewart / Hunter Army Airfield Child Development Center after many years of service.  Julia had a love for shopping and decorating.  Purple was her favorite color.  She was a great mom to her sons.  She had a special love for children.  She always traveled back and forth from Savannah to Darien until her health no longer permitted.  Christmas was her favorite holiday, when family and friends would travel to her home and have a good time, celebrating.  Julia was a generous person.

Julia is survived by her sisters, Debra Young, of Darien, and Janice Robinson, of Detroit, MI; her step-daughter, Georgene Wilson; her adopted daughter, Brenda Wallace; seven grandchildren; 19 grandchildren; numerous special friends and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends.

The funeral service was held Saturday, May 21, 2022, on the grounds of Darien Funeral Home, with burial following in Butler Cemetery.

Darien Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
