Chauncey Jerome Stickle III, 78, died Monday, July 11.

CJ graduated from Sacred Heart and Benedictine of Savannah.  He attended the University of Miami and Dekalb Junior College.  He held various operation positions with Standard Oil of Kentucky between 1966 and 1974, and then spent 19 years working as a checker foreman for the Georgia Ports Authority.  CJ started and operated Stickle’s Courier Service from 1995 to 2013.

CJ spent 20 years of service in the Georgia National Guard and retired as a Master Sergeant.  He was active in many organizations, such as Knights of Columbus Council 5588, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee & Adjutant Staff, Knights of Columbus 631, The Hibernian Society, the Irish Heritage Society and the Catholic War Veterans.  He enjoyed football and coached Little League for several years, as well as fishing and shrimping at his river house in Harris Neck.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Rae Elliott; two children, Katharine Howard and Sean Patrick Stickle; six grandchildren, Trent, Hannah, Abby and Nathan Stickle, and Ashleigh and Brianna Howard.

Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 15, at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist with burial at Bonaventure Cemetary.
