Naomi Zorn Hawthorne
Naomi Zorn Hawthorne, 90, of Darien, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 9, 2022, at Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick, Georgia.
Naomi was born in Liberty County, Georgia, to William Fulton and Ruth Howard Zorn. She lived most of her adult life in Darien and was the original owner of The Darien Restaurant, which she opened in March of 1977, and continued as owner-operator of until her retirement in 1998. In November of 1977, she married Marion Hawthorne and they remained married until he preceded her in death by one day, on Thursday, September 8, 2022.
Naomi was a member of the Lion’s Club, attended both United Methodist and Northside Baptist churches and enjoyed sewing, reading, cooking, doing word puzzles, playing card games on her tablet, and teaching her family how to lose at checkers.
Naomi is survived by her son, Bill (Robin) Williams; daughters, Diane (Ricky) Bennett and Patricia (Mike) Merritt; her step-daughter, Kelly (Steven) Russell; three grandsons, four granddaughters and two great-grandsons. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
Naomi was preceded in death by her parents; her four brothers: Archie, Louie, Hugh and Kendall Zorn; her sister, Gloris Hughes, and her oldest daughter, Mary Williams.
A combined memorial and celebration of life for Naomi and Marion Hawthorne will be held at Northside Baptist on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary. Family and friends will be invited to speak and share memories and stories if they wish.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to niece Jeanie Lee, caregivers Lori Poppell and Nicole Skeen, and to all those who assisted in caring for Marion and Naomi these past few months.
