Alf Edwin Hartley
Alf Edwin Hartley of Townsend, GA, passed away March 1, 2023. Born in Washington D.C. in 1947. He was the youngest of four sons. Alf was a loving father, stepfather and husband.
Alf joined the Army in 1967 and served in the Vietnam war. Once he returned home, he and his brothers operated Quality Sand and Gravel business in Rocky Mount, NC before he relocated to Richmond Hill, GA. Once settling in the low country Alf owned and operated Hartley Light Truck and Accessories as well as The Loggerhead Tavern. His career transitioned into the Concrete business, as well as heavy equipment hauling and the owner/operator of Hartley Enterprises which focused on timber transportation.
Alf was an avid boater. He loved the water, even as a young boy, passing the trait down to his three sons. When boating along the east coast and exploring the intercostal waterways, he fell in love with the Ogeechee River and decided to stay. He was passionate about the outdoors. He enjoyed bicycling, riding his four-wheeler, bird watching, and grilling. One of his favorite past times was sitting on his dock with his wife Sharon, and dog Benny. He always made sure his American flag was flying high. He was a true American, who loved his family and his country.
Alf is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Sharon Elaine Hartley, sons Dustin Alf Hartley, Garrett Boykin Hartley (Kelli), and Vincent Bryan Hartley (Meghan); stepchildren Benjamin M. Shaffer (Alisha), Shana J. Warsky (Joel), and Brandi R. Michael (Jordan); grandchildren Hayden Dustin Hartley, Meredith Catherine Hartley, Oliver Bryan Hartley, Ian Jakob Hartley, Jimmy Michael, Jaydon Conner, Kamryn Leah, William Conner, and Cali Rose; many loving nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his father, Eugene Boykin Hartley, his mother, Iris Jakobb Hartley Lewis, and older brothers Eugene Davis (Duke) Hartley, Laurence A. Hartley (Larrie), and Eric Boykin Hartley.
The family will have a private service at Alf’s request.
Richmond Hill Funeral Home is assisting the Hartley family with arrangements.
