Richard Alston Sr.

Richard “Chef” Alston Sr., of Meridian, died Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at Memorial Health University Medical Center, in Savannah.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2, at Greater Works Than These Ministries, 4020 Wylly Ave., Brunswick. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Hudson Cemetery, in Meridian.

A walk-through viewing will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Darien Funeral Home, at one hour prior to the service at the church.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl Austin; children, Joseph Austin, Jermaine Austin, Lyle Austin, Langston Austin, Rachel Rogers and Richard Austin Jr.; siblings, Ronnie Austin, William Austin Jr., Kathleen Austin, Mary Prince and Judith Cooper; and other relatives.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.
