Allen Bailey
A Celebration of Life was held for Allen Bailey on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026, at the McIntosh County Academy, with Rev. Dr. James Banks Jr. officiating.
He was born on March 25, 1989, to Alford Leon Bailey Sr. and Mary Bailey and raised in the close-knit community of Hog Hammock. Allen grew up surrounded by family and the enduring heritage of the island he proudly called home.
His upbringing instilled in him the values of hard work, perseverance, humility and community. He carried these principles throughout his life.
On Oct. 20, 2026, Allen departed this early life at the age of 37, leaving a legacy of love, strength and lasting impact.
Allen’s spiritual foundation began at First African Baptist Church where he was baptized. He graduated from McIntosh County Academy in 2007, where his remarkable athletic ability earned him the opportunity to attend the University of Miami. As a Miami Hurricane, Allen distinguished himself as a dedicated student-athlete and standout defensive lineman, earning All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors.
In 2011, he was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the third round of the NFL Draft, being an accomplished ten-season professional career. He played eight seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs (2011-2018) and two seasons with the Atlanta Falcons (2019-2020). Throughout his career, Allen earned the respect of teammates, coaches, and fans through his determination, discipline, and character. Yet his greatest accomplishments were never limited to what he achieved on the field.
Away from football, Allen found joy in spending time back home on Sapelo Island. He remained deeply connected to his roots and believed in the importance of creating opportunities for others. Through the Allen Bailey Foundation, he supported youth, helped strengthen communities and helped others realize their potential. To those who knew him personally, Allen was more than an accomplished athlete. He was a man whose presence, generosity and love left an impression that extended beyond the public spotlight.
Allen was preceded in death by his father. Alford Leon Bailey Sr. and his younger brother, Alphonso Pernell Bailey.
Allen leaves to cherish his memory his belove wife, Lauren Bailey; his children, Ace, Arlo and Axel; his loving mother, Mary Bailey; his grandmother, Winnie Wilson; his siblings, Quentin (Shuntisk) Wilson, LaShaundra (Daniel) Measuria, Alford (Norma) Bailey, Jr., Clarissa (Eddie) Thorpe, and Francine Bailey; his aunts and uncles; a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins and extended family members, lifelong friends, former teammates, and loved ones whose lives were touched by his presence.
Though Allen’s time on earth ws far too brief, the life he lived cannot be measured in years along.
His legacy lives on through his children, the family he loved, the community that raised him, the lives he influenced and the example he leaves for generations to come.
His journey was extraordinary. His impact immeasurable. His memory will remain forever in our hearts.
Darien Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
