Merwan Massa named as sole

finalist for School Superintendent

McIntosh County Schools Assistant Superintendent Merwan Massa was named as the sole finalist for the position of Superintendent of McIntosh County Schools by the McIntosh County Board of Education on Friday, May 22.

The search for a new superintendent began in March, when Superintendent Dr. Melissa Williams announced her retirement.

Massa has 24 years of public school experience in Georgia, including service in McIntosh and Wayne County school districts.

He is currently the Assistant Superintendent of Operations here and also has experience as the director of human resources and federal programs, director of curriculum and professional learning, a middle school principal, assistant principal, as well as an elementary teacher.

McIntosh County Board of Education employed search consultants from Georgia Leadership Associates to assist in the selection. The naming of the sole finalist culminates several months of intense search activity by the School Board. There were 19 applications that were reviewed. Six were selected for in-person lengthy interviews.

The School Board will now wait at least 14 days before taking an official vote to employ Massa as superintendent. The action is set to take place at the School Board’s regular meeting on Wednesday, June 10.

Massa is a graduate of Saint Leo University in New Port Richey, Fla., where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Studies. He also holds a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Georgia Southern University.

McIntosh School Board Chair Missy Brigman said, “We are excited to have someone with the experience and devotion to McIntosh County Schools to serve as our superintendent. We have had a deliberate and thorough search process, and I am appreciative of the work by the members of our board.”
