Gertrude Hutcherson, 79, of Darien, died Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, at Zion Missionary Baptist Association, 1111 Johnson Road NE, Crescent. Interment will follow at Belleville Cemetery.

A walk-through viewing will be held on Friday, July 24, from 5 to 7 p.m. at First African Baptist Church, 2696 Swamp Road SE, Meridian.

Gertrude Holmes Hutcherson was born on October 22, 1946, to Chester, Sr. and Mary Etta Holmes in Crescent, Georgia.

Gertrude Holmes Hutcherson received her formal education at Todd Grant in Darien, GA.

Gertrude Holmes Hutcherson accepted Christ her Savior at an early age and was united with First African Baptist Church in Meridian, GA.

Gertrude Holmes was united in holy matrimony with Lloyd Hutcherson on April 19, 1968, in Darien, GA. Their union was blessed with four children; Joanne Hicks, Lloyd Hutcherson, Leslie Hutcherson and Tyrone Hutcherson. Her blended children were Felicia Armstrong, Dalyn Mack, Angel Walden, Sonja Davis and Antonia Wesperte.

In her leisure, she enjoyed cooking, traveling, singing, dancing, shopping and spending time with family.

She was employed by Southeast Georgia Health System as a unit Coordinator for twenty-five years. She was a member of Hudson Home Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester, Sr. and Mary Etta Holmes; husband, Lloyd Hutcherson; son, Tyrone Hutcherson; sisters, Beatrice Hutcherson and Elizabeth Holmes; and brother, Chester Holmes, Jr.

She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Joanne Hicks and Leslie Hutcherson; one son, Lloyd (Tonya) Hutcherson; two brothers, Abram (Vera) Holmes, Sr. and Prince Anderson; one sister, Doretha Heidt; sisters-in-law, Celestine Hutcherson-Lemmons, Teresa Young, Phyllis Sullivan and Ethel Sullivan;  brothers-in-law, Leroy Sullivan, Jr. and Melvin Sullivan; godchildren, Tamika Noble, Cedric Rhaney, Crishonda Grant and Octovia Holloway; grandchildren, Brittany Habersham, Jamal Saddler, Yoneika Hutcherson, Julisha Moran, Christopher Hutcherson, Keonna Hicks, Lloyd Hutcherson, Jr., TaShayla Weston, KeShawn Weston, Travala Campbell, TyShaun Campbell, Lloyonna Hutcherson, Ty’Kasia Campbell and Demerius Coleman; dear friends, Wanda Mingo-Richardson, Mildred “Charlene” Cox, Knia Temple, Teresa Robertson and Earlene Bradley; caregivers, TaShenna Lang, Jamauria Wilson, Veronica Allman-West and Jameela Charles and other relatives and friends.
