DRUMFOLK EVENT WITH RIDDIMIC RESCUE AND STEP AFRIKA!
1802 Abercorn Street, Savannah, GA 31401

The Riddimic Rescue: Drumfolk Shout + Music Society, in collaboration with the international body-percussion performance ensemble STEP AFRIKA!, will be holding a special participatory event on March 28, 2019 from 6:30 to 9:00 PM in the Parish Hall of The Collegiate Church of St. Paul the Apostle at the corner of E. 34th St. and Abercorn St. in Savannah, Georgia (1802 Abercorn Street).  The event is free. Drumfolk is body percussion, vocalization, movement, drumming, and Shouting that allows one to experience the dynamic soul-force of Gullah-Geechee-inspired and African-inspired traditions in the Americas and beyond. The Georgia and South Carolina Sea Islands and Coast are the core region where these traditions originated. Through the narrative and poetry of the drum, all of the disappeared legacies are made plain! This unique Drumfolk event is part of an on-going 15-year collaboration between percussionist/composer David Pleasant and STEP AFRIKA! which traces the development of African and Early African American music and movement through the Drumfolk Legacy of the Georgia and South Carolina Low Country. The event will include a structured workshop-lecture-performance demonstration, master class featuring special guest artist Jakari Sherman from STEP AFRIKA!, as well as a Drumfolk ensemble open rehearsal, audition, and community jam. There will also be a celebration of regional flavor and cuisine from local Gullah-Geechee chefs. While the event is free and open to the public, donations would be greatly appreciated.
