School Safety Sweep identifies a “Prohibited item”

Safety Sweep at schools identifies a “prohibited item”

The following is a joint statement from Superintendent Dr. Melissa H. Williams and Sheriff Thornell “TK” King made on at 5:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18.

This morning, McIntosh County Middle School and McIntosh County Academy participated in a coordinated safety sweep in partnership with the McIntosh County Sheriff’s Department, utilizing trained detection K-9 units. The search was conducted as a proactive safety measure and is one of the many steps we take to ensure our campuses remain safe and focused on learning.

The process was carried out efficiently and respectfully, with minimal disruption to the school day. The operation went smoothly, and we appreciate the cooperation of our students and staff throughout the process.

During the course of the sweep, a dog alerted on a vehicle at MCA which was then searched by school administrators. A prohibited item was identified in a student vehicle and was immediately addressed in coordination with law enforcement officials.

McIntosh County Schools in partnership with the McIntosh County Sheriff’s Office are committed to providing a safe and secure learning environment for all students and staff. Student safety will always remain a top priority for McIntosh County Schools.

We will continue working closely with local law enforcement and our community to ensure that our schools are places where students can learn and grow in a safe and supportive setting.
